Learning Objectives:

  • Improve understanding of a brief evidence-based intervention for youth with suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs)

  • Gain and practice skills in a cognitive-behavioral-based intervention for STBs

This two-and-a-half-hour, live online training provides detailed instruction on a coping plan intervention for youth experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Based on cognitive-behavioral principles, participants will learn to collaboratively develop a coping plan with youth and will have the opportunity to practice this process during the session.

About the Presenter:
Kathleen Kemp, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School and Research Psychologist with Rhode Island Hospital. She is the Director of the Rhode Island Family Court Mental Health Clinic and specializes in suicide prevention and intervention for youth involved in the juvenile legal and child welfare systems. Dr. Kemp has been awarded multiple NIH grants and has extensive experience conducting suicide prevention training for clinical and non-clinical staff.
