The success and effectiveness of an organization is dependent upon the interaction of the organizational system with its environment. Motivational Interviewing (MI) encompasses foundational skills that helps practitioners gain comprehensive knowledge on how to navigate the everyday conversations we have about change. An overview of MI helps to build awareness, skills, and philosophy for our everyday practices. Motivational Interviewing 101 helps learners understand the basics of MI, including its definition and when to use MI. This introductory course introduces the stages and processes of MI, and allows attendees to practice O.A.R.S, and identify change talk.
Motivational Interviewing 101 Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to define Motivational Interviewing Participants will be able to define Stages of Change Participants will be introduced to the Four Processes of Motivational Interviewing Participants will be introduced to the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing Participants will be able to define and practice O.A.R.S Participants will be able to define Change talk Participants will learn how to use Elicit, Provide, Elicit Participants will be introduced to responding to Sustain Talk and Discord

Learn a little about John: Meet John Bowers, a dedicated 46-year-old professional and family man, who seamlessly balances his roles as a member of the M.I.N.T and an Educator for the Utah Courts. As a seasoned individual with a wealth of experience, John brings a unique perspective to his work. He started his career as a Probation Officer for the state of Colorado and that became his first exposure to MI. In 2011, John moved to the state of Utah and in 2012, John joined the M.I.N.T and has been training MI since. Known for his commitment to excellence, John has proven himself as a reliable and resourceful team member. Outside the professional realm, John is a devoted family man. His role as a father to two children is one that he cherishes deeply. Balancing the demands of a career with the responsibilities of parenthood, John has become adept at creating a harmonious blend of work and family life. Beyond the courts and family, John finds solace and joy in the great outdoors. An avid mountain biker, he embraces the thrill of navigating rugged trails and conquering challenging terrains. Riding his mountain bike isn't just a hobby for John; it's a passion that allows him to stay physically active and mentally rejuvenated. John Bowers; journey through life is marked by a commitment to learning, a dedication to family, and a love for the exhilarating freedom of mountain biking.
