Join Phoenix Rising for a two-part virtual training series focused on understanding neurodiversity and creating safer, more affirming environments for neurodivergent clients. Participants may register for both sessions or either session individually.

Session 1: Neurodiversity 101

August 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Build a foundational understanding of neurodiversity and explore how nervous system stress responses can shape the experiences and behaviors of neurodivergent clients.
Participants will learn to:
  • Define key terms and understand the history of the neurodiversity movement
  • Identify common forms and traits of neurodivergence
  • Apply a five-state polyvagal framework to fight, flight, freeze, and related responses
  • Connect nervous system stress responses to challenges commonly experienced by neurodivergent people
  • Use neurodiversity-affirming practices to reduce ableism and support more effective care

Session 2: Creating an Affirming Environment for Neurodivergent Clients

September 3 at 1:00 p.m.
Learn practical strategies for building trust, improving communication, and creating environments where neurodivergent clients feel safer, understood, and supported.
Participants will learn to:
  • Build rapport using neurodivergent-affirming communication strategies
  • Recognize rejection sensitivity and avoid common clinical pitfalls
  • Create a more sensory-considerate office environment
  • Identify signs of possible neurodivergence in clients who have not been diagnosed
  • Integrate affirming practices into everyday work with youth and families
